The story of the moving painting “Blackie” at the MAKE AIR gallery began the day a young woman walked into the gallery and was deeply struck by one of my works.

“Blackie” is a two-metre painting: a horse’s muzzle in macro detail, wrapped in abstraction and flecks of gold. The work caught her attention and gave her a sense of grandeur and mystery.

Taken with the subject, she made an unusual request — she wanted the same image on her car. I took the work on and brought the idea to life: it rides on her car now.

The project turned “Blackie” from a static painting into moving art that can travel the streets and surprise and inspire everyone who sees it. The story shows how art can be inspiring and can cross the lines between different forms of expression, painting and car design included.
