Mountain ridges along the bottom, a small amount of sky, and the sky is the subject.

“Heavenly Ocean”, 100 × 80 cm, mixed media, bronze and aluminium framing.

The mountains are heavy. Ancient, with the weight of time in them. The sky above is indecently light. The whole work rests on that difference in weight.

Gold reliefs run across the sky. They stand out from the surface, visible from the side, and in sun they flare one after another instead of all at once.

The ridges went on in dense texture and the sky stayed nearly smooth. Run a hand down the surface and you feel that before you see it.

To breathe air like this you have to climb. Nothing else does it: the air lower down is a different composition, however much you take in.

Mountains are the anchor, sky is the freedom. Freedom with no anchor turns into a draught.

Feet on the ground, head up top. Familiar?

A living room gives it space, a study gives it focus. Choose by where you stand more often.

Shall we talk about art?

Ask me about any part of what I do — what a work is made of, how it feels to the hand, how it will sit in your room. I am glad to film it for you in the studio. We can talk through size, framing and timing, or start a work that does not exist yet.
