Life Glows by Itself

A grown man and a little girl drawing a heart in the sand. A child's gesture, entirely simple.

“Life Glows by Itself”, 100 × 100 cm, oil over pastes and texture. An abstraction with three elements guessable in it: sky, sea and land.

The figures are built out of air and sand, with no firm contour. They hold the centre, though they are painted lighter than anything else here.

Sunbeams break through the cloud. Gold glints run over the texture and flare while you move along the canvas.

Light here does not arrive from outside. It comes out of presence: a warm hand in a child's palm, a line in the sand, a look upward.

Happiness does not keep in objects, I have checked. It keeps in moments, and a moment by definition cannot be stored.

The first decent wave will take that heart, and they spent a minute on it. Those two know and draw it anyway.

A square this size holds a family room or a hall wall. Painted in my studio; a close version can be commissioned.
