The sky comes down smoothly to the horizon and waves run over the water. For me water carries a state, and here it is the unknown you step into for the first time.

The adult is strength and protection, the child is openness and trust. One leads, the other agrees to go.

Seen from behind, the scene reads more privately. The viewer becomes an invisible witness.

A first step into water is an act of trust. The child trusts the hand, the adult trusts himself to manage.

The part of yourself in the title is about handing something over. We give a piece of ourselves away, and at times we take the same support back.

The format is small and works from a distance: walking right up to this scene is the wrong instinct.

Put it in a hallway or beside a bedroom door.
