Calm

From the “Horizon Lines” collection. 180 × 118 cm, a two-centimetre stretcher, gold moulding.

The landscape works as a window. Behind it, nature at its most balanced: no wind, no events.

Multi-layered relief technique, gloss in places. Gold warms the surface, gloss gives it transparency. Those two carry everything.

Look at it slowly. Nothing here reads fast, because there is nothing to read: this is a state, not a scene.

The calm in this one is thick. It is a dense thing in itself, something you can take into your lungs.

No stress, no fuss, no event to grab hold of, and if you stay with it long enough you stop examining it and simply stand there.

Why so large? Small calm does not work. It turns into a nice little landscape over a chest of drawers.

The title is direct. I was not after a second layer.

Give it a long wall, in the living room or over a bed.
