Eternal growth

“Eternal Growth” is mountains built in layers: one summit, a second behind it, a third, up to the top edge.

“Eternal Growth”, 150 × 100 cm, mixed media on canvas, gloss in places.

Grey and white with a thin cold blue between them. Silver catches daylight and goes out towards evening, and the glossy veins run down into the relief, under the stone.

Every layer went onto a dry one. Any other way and it lifts.

From two metres this is mountain painting art. From half a metre the mountains disappear: chips, hollows, rough set against smooth.

People grow like that too. Nothing for months, then one week hands you a jump and the old shape is tight.

I left the top open. The summits run off the edge and there is no final one.

Hang it in a bright living room or a study, on a wall you pass daily. Textured wall art at nine in the evening is not what it was at eight in the morning.

You can touch it. That is what it is for.
