The Art of Focus

An aircraft head-on, on a wet runway, a second before the roll. The floodlights come straight at you and lay long gold tracks down the asphalt.

The sky is dark with crimson in it. All the light comes from below, from the lamps, and the aircraft's face only half emerges from that dark.

I was not painting flight. I was painting the moment when it is already decided: brakes off, no calling it back.

I ran the gold reflections on the asphalt vertically, in even bands, so they pull the eye down to the nose gear and send it back up to the cockpit.

Its place is a study, a meeting room, a hallway by the door. Where a person gathers themselves before something.

This one is often bought as a gift for a man who flies for work. It goes into a concrete loft and into a classic wooden study alike: the dark ground lives with both.
