“Faith in Every Day” is an upright a metre and a half tall, blue all through. A face comes out of the water at the top; down below there are highlights and a tiny boat.

150 × 90 cm, one centimetre thick. Many layers, mixed media, relief, gloss in places, framed.

I built the blue in layers, from nearly black at the top to turquoise at the bottom edge. The face lies in the upper layer and you do not see it at once: first you find the boat, then you raise your eyes.

The gloss runs in vertical bands. It catches the window and the lamp, and the work grows highlights of its own that I never painted.

A boat on the bottom contradicts nothing. It is where people do not usually look. And it is intact.

Hang it in a hallway over a bench, in a bedroom, in a study. An upright stretches a low ceiling.
