Gaming

A dark canvas, 200 × 150 cm: a galaxy, Aquarius large across it, a girl with a ball at the bottom.

“Gaming”, from the “Fish in Space” collection. Mixed textured technique, gloss in places, three centimetres deep.

Contrast is the main device. Infinity above, a child busy with a game below. Neither disturbs the other.

What she is bouncing is the Earth. A whole planet handled as something familiar and not frightening at all. That is the thought.

The size is deliberate. At two metres a starry sky stops being a picture and starts working as space; walk closer and you are inside it.

The girl below is small, and she is the only figure on the whole cloth, so the eye finds her before it finds the constellation.

From what distance should you look? About three steps. Nearer, you see texture. Further, you see the plan.

It needs room to breathe: a nursery with a high ceiling, or a wide hallway.
