Significant Currency

Money stopped being money a long time ago. It buys sleep, the phrase I can afford it, a door that opens without anyone being asked.

Its own rites have grown around it. The first takings are never spent. Change is taken with the left hand. An empty wallet is never a gift.

They all mean one thing: you made a gesture, the gesture charged a thought, the thought became a habit, the habit shifted you. No metal involved.

Superstition is an old way of talking to the world without an interpreter, leaning on small things you appointed important yourself.

The gloss over the green and the gold stayed on purpose. Ten steps back it reads as the window of a currency booth. Up close, texture and layers.

Which currency counts for you? The painting asks and gives no answer.

The gold frame is part of the joke.

It hangs well behind a desk or in a boardroom.
