The Power of Sound

The massifs went up heavy and wide. They give a low tone, the sort you hear with your back rather than your ears.

The river is white and clean, with no shading, and nowhere does it run straight. Nothing alive moves in straight lines.

It ties the mountains to the sky and pulls the eye upward. It breaks the count too: a climb, a pause, another climb, and that white line across all of it.

The sky is light and open. There is no ceiling in it, and you are used to ceilings, so the first seconds can be uncomfortable.

The silence is not empty. It holds you the way these mountains hold the sky, without effort and without reminding you that anyone is holding anything.

The title says sound and the canvas is mute. The rhythm of these mountains is audible anyway.

At this size it asks for a large wall: living room, study, meeting room.
