A boy has climbed into a cardboard box and is colouring the inside of it. Where the cardboard stops, space starts.

“Beyond the Frame, Straight into Space”, 90 × 80 cm, layered mixed technique with gloss.

The box is our own narrowed way of seeing. A person builds those walls out of their expectations and then lives inside them.

He paints honestly and in detail. Every stroke tries to improve what is already to hand.

The title says where he should have been looking. Beyond the frame, and in one move, straight into space.

I painted the space dense and near. No transition zone: cardboard, then the universe.

Breaking walls is frightening only up to the first time. After that it turns out nothing bad was standing behind them.

Limits turn into possibilities here quite literally: same walls, same boy, the head lifted.

Nobody has told him this yet.

It hangs where you make decisions, in a home office or a teenager's room.
