“Everything is in You (Light It Up)”, 220 × 50 cm, mixed media, a narrow vertical in matte black aluminium.
A strip like that pulls the eye upward and refuses to let it drift sideways. That is why I took the shape.
The blue of the night is cold. The fire in the lantern is warm. The whole painting rests on those two temperatures.
The lantern is small. It lights no mountains and never could; it lights a metre around the walker. Past that, dark, and the walker goes on, because nobody hands out any other light.
The stars above are big and close, closer than a city ever shows them.
Light what up? The title answers plainly: the light you walk by is already on you.
Hang it in a pier between windows, or on a narrow stretch of wall. It needs height, not width.
