“In Flight” is the view from one aircraft onto another. Turquoise water below, white cloud spreading in a vortex, the fuselage running through the middle, and its shadow lying on the water as a separate patch.
From the “In Flight” collection. 180 × 120 cm, three centimetres thick, on aluminium, in resin and airbrush, finished with an aluminium profile.
Resin gives a depth that paint does not. The water drops away through several layers, and the cloud above it reads as a separate plane.
With the airbrush I make the transitions a brush cannot: sky, haze, the edge of a cloud.
The aircraft is tiny. On a two-metre panel it is the size of a hand. All the rest is air.
An epoxy resin painting this size asks for direct light. Under a lamp the surface works as a mirror and the depth opens all the way.
This is the largest work in the collection. A living room of four metres or more, a hall, a boardroom.
Aluminium does not mind swings in temperature or damp: a bathroom or a house by the water holds no fear for it.
