A Stop for Paradise

The sea takes nearly the whole surface. A narrow strip of beach along the bottom, and on it a couple with their arms thrown wide.

The gesture those two make is simple and absolute. They are running nowhere and catching up with nothing. They exist.

I kept the exotic out of it deliberately. No glamorous holiday, no postcard shot: paradise here is available now, if a person allows it.

Allows is the key word. Most people live in constant motion and forget that the moment is already good.

A sea this size pushes the wall back. In a small room you notice that more than in a big one.

A stop is no exit from life. It is a way into it.

The hangers are bronze, so the work sits off the wall with a gap and throws its own shadow under it in side light.

Sometimes the wisest thing available is to stop.
