Part of the Sun

“Part of the Sun” is gold across the entire canvas. There is no second colour on it.

“Part of the Sun”, 160 × 120 cm, three centimetres deep, in a gold frame and ready for the wall.

Texture does all the work here. Gold on its own is flat; over relief the light travels unevenly and the surface starts living. Soft glow in the morning, then it sinks into depth by evening and grows denser.

Luxury was not the point. I need gold as a temperature: warmth, fullness, energy.

The frame is gold to match, so the border between painting and moulding nearly disappears and the gold comes out onto the wall as one field.

The title is literal. A piece of the sun that stands in the room and stays there after dark.

It works in minimalism and in modern classic. A busy interior crowds it: gold needs air.
