Diving into Yourself

A face going under the paint. The features still read, and the flows, the relief and the light take them away layer by layer.

The person is not lost in there. Each layer closes an earlier version and opens the next one, so the texture works as a biography.

We know the taste of the outside world well. The taste of achievement, of speed, of other people's expectations. Our own we try far less often.

The full title is longer than the label: “Drowning in Myself, in My New Taste”. Drowning here is about depth.

The large reliefs hold the mark of time. The glossy passages catch light and bring out what was lying in the lower layers.

Paint stopped being a material in this one. It runs down the face the way a person changes after letting themselves hear their own feelings.

Nothing here needs decoding. Stand with it long enough to hear yourself.

Give it a quiet wall, in a study or a bedroom.
