Taste of flow

“Taste of Flow” is an abstraction with a flower coming through it. You do not see it at once. It assembles while you look: patches and relief first, then a contour, then the flower.

A square canvas, 100 × 100 cm, mixed media and oil.

White holds the air. The green is soft, muted. Gold runs through the composition and settles on every ridge.

The large reliefs I built to read as bark, with the same ragged thickness and the same long splits old wood keeps after a winter.

The glossy veins change while you walk along it. From the left it is one painting. From the right, another. So the side of the room people look from matters; in a living room I would put it beside the window.

This flower was never drawn. It came together when the last layers went down and I saw it already finished. Flow behaves that way: the hand has done it before the head decided.

A floral painting, if you like, though half of it is bark and gold.
