“Texture of Interest” is a painting about curiosity. The childhood kind: what is this made of, what is under the top layer?

I ran the glossy veins so the eye travels along them like a path and stops at the next question.

States have always interested me more than pictures for a wall, and this one came out about the feeling any child starts from.

I like work that makes a person slow down. Not walk past in three seconds. Stand there. Come closer. Tilt their head. Ask what it is made of.

Whether you guess the materials does not matter to me. What matters is that you stopped. In my studio a new technique usually begins that way: somebody asks, I go and try it.

A textured painting like this holds a living room or a hallway, somewhere people walk right up to it.

Touching it is allowed. I count on it.
