Deep Focus

A young woman standing in a swimming pool, her back to you, facing the universe. “Deep Focus”, 110 × 90 cm, mixed media, painted for “Fish in Space”.

The pool water is calm and clear. Space is reflected in it, so infinity lies directly under her feet.

She is looking outward and the connection to space is internal. That is the subject.

I chose a pool over a sea deliberately. A sea is wild, a pool is man-made, and the scene turns domestic: nobody conquered an element, a person came out to the water in the evening.

The moment is contemplative. The past has stepped back, the present has crossed the future.

Everything a person perceives reflects them. Water shows that literally.

Space reads better in the reflection than it would painted directly. In water it is blurred, and that brings it closer.

The title is about focus pulled inward, not onto an object.

Its wall is a bedroom or a quiet study.

One canvas, no edition, directly from the artist who made it.
