Three metres by two forty. At that scale you stop being a viewer and stand inside the work.
“Torsion Geometry of the Present”, 300 × 240 cm, mixed media and oil.
The ground is deep blue. Gold and red lines cross it, aircraft trails, which I read as lines of writing.
Most of the crossings are up at the top. The numerals 1, 2 and 3 stand there too.
In the middle a girl in white, in black glasses, looking straight at you. The glasses let her see the invisible without being blinded.
On the left a child. He is drawing a line, setting a boundary, and that short movement holds more power over reality than all the traffic above him.
Everything starts with a line, so the architect here is the child.
Opportunities are already laid out, like routes in the sky, and attention finds them where effort and demand do not.
Where does three metres go? A hall, a gallery, a big room with a high ceiling.
I paint these routes before anyone feels them.
