A Private Gate of Pleasure

An overhead view, close to surreal. A husband and wife stand on the shore and the waves move around them.

The figures are minimal, nearly signs. I gave them no detail: closeness has no need of detail.

The waves move, the couple are still and calm. The whole thing rests on that contrast.

The view from above was chosen deliberately. Nobody looks at anything that way with their eyes, and the scene stops being domestic at once.

The shore is footing here, and the border between inside and outside. The waves are sensuality and flow.

Pleasure, to my mind, is choice and space. No tension belongs in it, only presence.

The format is almost square, and the bronze along the edge gathers all that movement and stops it spreading.

In a room it works as an invitation to slow down. Over a bed, or in a quiet corner where two people sit.
