In Flight

“In Flight”, 130 × 90 cm. The aircraft runs through the upper third with a white trail behind it, and below it a vortex of cloud unwinds.

The base is aluminium, in resin and airbrush, finished with an aluminium profile.

The clouds are the main thing here. I wound them into a funnel towards the bottom edge, so the eye falls after them and comes back up to the aircraft from below.

The blue runs from violet at the top to clean turquoise in the middle. I brought the white in with the airbrush, in layers, working for a haze with no edge.

The resin covers everything on top and holds the depth: between cloud and water you can see several centimetres into it.

I drew the aircraft's trail as a single line, over everything else. The last movement in the work.

Hang it over a bed, in a child's room, in a study. In a bedroom it is particularly good: a blue and white field settles you in the evening and does not get in the way in the morning.

Aluminium is light, and on a wall of this size that is a difference you notice.
